Australian protesters want refugees and asylum seekers on the Manus Island with them

Refugees and asylum seekers on Papua New Guinea ‘s Manus Island sat in on Saturday, in the wake of Australian advocates who took to the streets against the backdrop of Australia.

Papua New Guinea security officials shouted at refugees who were fetching food from an Australian refugee camp, refugees at the center told Reuters.

The local boat owner was later released.

Refugees at the center had to dig up rainwater to drink, video shared with Reuters showed.

About 600 men have barricaded themselves inside the camp Manus island in Papua New Guinea, defying efforts by Australia and Papua New Guinea to shut it down.

Food, running water and medical services were cut off by Australia four days ago. The men also fear violent reprisals from the local community.
